BEFORE YOUR
FIRST VISIT

What to Expect

What to expect at your first appointment?

You have either booked an appointment or are considering booking an appointment and are probably wondering…what can I expect? Great question!

The first session with the Physical Therapist will be approximately between 40 - 60 minutes.

  1. We will do a lot of talking! We will go through your story, and your medical history, and discuss in length your current symptoms, as we narrow down why you are experiencing these symptoms.

  2. We will complete a physical and movement examination that is important and can help put the pieces of the puzzle together. Wear gym-like clothing, as the physiotherapist needs access to your injured area.

  3. We will develop a treatment plan together. We will discuss your specific goals and how we can help you to achieve your passion.

  4. The goal of the first session is to get a good understanding of you and your symptoms, to help you understand why you are experiencing your symptoms, and to provide you with the tools to help manage them.

What to expect at your first pelvic floor health appointment?

You have either booked a pelvic floor therapy appointment or are considering it. You are probably wondering…what can I expect? Great question!

The first session with the physical therapist will be approximately 1 - 1.5 hours.

  1.  We will do a lot of talking! We will discuss your story, your medical history, and your current symptoms, as we narrow down why you are experiencing these symptoms.

  2. You will receive information and education about pelvic floor health.

  3. A physical and movement examination is really important and can help put the pieces of the puzzle together. The physical exam can be internal, external, both, or none (we work with your comfort level). You are always in control of what you want done so if you are comfortable with an internal exam, great. If you are not comfortable with an internal exam, that’s okay.

  4. The purpose of an internal pelvic floor exam is to figure out:

    • What are the muscles doing, and can they squeeze and relax?

    • Can you find those pelvic floor muscles?

  5. We will develop a treatment plan together.

  6. The goal of the first session is to get a good understanding of you and your symptoms, to help you understand why you are experiencing your symptoms, and to provide you with the tools to help manage them.
